Biophagy, Inc.
Mary J. Ortner, PhD, MBA, President and CEOBiophagy, Inc. is a discovery pharmaceutical company located at The BioScience Center in Albuquerque, NM. Founded by Dr. Stuart Rose in 2012, its corporate mission is to discover drugs that modulate autophagy as part of a specific disease process. In so doing, we hope to relieve patient symptoms or halt disease progression in therapeutic areas with high unmet need. Biophagy is currently developing proprietary drugs for tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 (covid-19 virus) plus autophagy-targeted OTC formulations as part of an anti-aging program. The company has had past and current collaborations with Sandia National Laboratories and several laboratories at the University of New Mexico. It has received multiple grant funding from NM Small Business Assistance.

GILZ, LLC
Josh Kefauver, Founder and PresidentGILZ LLC was founded in New Mexico in 2019 to develop effective, novel, and practical personal protective product solutions for residents living in air-polluted environments. The GILZ patent-pending Clean Helmet is a smart helmet that has an integrated air-filtering mechanism allowing the user to breathe clean air without the obstruction of a face mask or respirator. GILZ completed a second round of technical consulting and aerosol testing at Sandia National Laboratories on its Clean Helmet technology. The Clean Helmet showed an average efficiency of 95% for controlling harmful particulates in the air polluted test chamber. In addition to being appropriate for motorcyclists, the system may have firefighting, military, and first-responder application. GILZ is sponsoring UNM senior engineering students to assist with the automated sensor control system and plans to crowdfund the Clean Helmet in Summer 2022.

LifeScience Testing and Analysis
Rebecca Reiss, PHD Owner/ FounderLifeScience Testing and Analysis (Formerly Hexadecaroon Genomics Consulting LLC.) facilitates continued research on environmental microbiomes. Currently they are developing a rapid, reliable, and repeatable assay for virucidal activity using a non-pathogenic bacterial virus that can be used in a Biosafety Level 1 facility. The assay is focused on testing treatments of surfaces and textiles designed to improve the ability of materials to rapidly inactivate virus particles.

Mesa Alta Research, LLC
MARK BRENNEMAN, PHD, CEO/CSOMesa Alta Research was founded to develop new technology supporting cancer diagnostics, specifically the detection of solid tumors through analysis of cell-free DNA and RNA (cfDNA/RNA) they shed into the blood circulation. This is often referred to as “liquid biopsy”, and holds great promise for measuring the response of diagnosed tumors to treatment, in monitoring patients who have completed cancer treatment for possible recurrence, and for sensitive, early detection of new cancers when they are most treatable. Mesa Alta has pioneered a revolutionary new approach to recovery of cfDNA/RNA from blood that dramatically improves specimen yields and quality, to enable the most sensitive blood-based cancer detection possible.
